InvisionFree/ZetaBoards
InvisionFree started sometime in 2002. I found it sometime around june 2003, and started a board there. They've gone through a lot of problems that they've solved since then, and have around fifteen servers for their service. I remember when they first added server 2, and errors popped up pretty much every time you wanted to do anything, and when server 2 crashed and lost lots of data. It was crazy. Luckily they solved everything.
But that was then, this is now. Well, I can't start now with my complaint, as it goes a bit further back. As of now InvisionFree is an incredibly clean, nearly bugless service, and is great if you want a straight up forum, no shoutbox, shop or any of those pretty tacky features. Sometime in 2004, they announced they were going to work on a shop for InvisionFree. Then when IPB became a paid forum, they decided to work on their own IF2.0, which would presumably have the shop. Eventually that evolved into what we now know as ZetaBoards. They pretty much have discontinued any more work on InvisionFree because of their glorious ZetaBoards, which is a problem. Spambots run rampant across boards, and while there are ways to prevent it from a IF user's position, there are also measures the IF staff could be taking with the software that they simply aren't. So they have this offer to transfer to ZetaBoards, which sounds great!
But they have the transfers backlogged to an insane degree. Why? Because they started doing transfers before they could make the process automatic. Why on earth would they start doing it manually? They should know that they have a lot of boards on IF, and tons of them have been waiting for ZetaBoards. So they're working their asses off on making this auto converter.
ZetaBoards is a great software on its own, but its not without random bugs. I have an admin that simply cannot access the ACP on one board for no apparant reason. I had been sending messages back and forth between ZetaBoards staff, and eventually they simply stopped replying. We had tried many ways to get him into the ACP, but I just ended up letting the board die, because there really was no use running it if the staff can't even access it.
I was reading a topic on the ZetaBoards support board, where someone was complaining about the IF spambots and how ZetaBoards transfers couldn't help him because it takes far too long for the ZB staff to transfer anything. Rather than help the guy out, they pretty much all flamed him for insulting the great and mighty ZetaBoards staff who are "hard at work," and that "ZetaBoards is a FREE service so you shouldn't complain." It's free, yeah, but the staff is still making money off of it from the ads. You host a forum, get shit support, they get rich. Sounds like a sweet deal.
I haven't seen ONE successful ZetaBoards forum aside from the support board. ZetaBoards is an amazing software, but if the staff want their software to be put to good use they better start giving some decent support to the users.

Time to ditch ZetaBoards for a while, then. :/
